The Veteran's Administration (VA) home loan was started after 1945 to help veterans returning from the war get readjusted into society.

VA Home Loans are a great mortgage product for current or ex-military members.  They are very similar to FHA loans as they are not "credit score driven", meaning that the VA underwriter tries to look at the borrower's whole financial picture. 

They are still required to follow the VA Lending Guidelines, but even those are pretty lenient.  VA Loans were the original "no money down" mortgages.
